Huber Hummer Donates 2 Ride-on Vehicles to Children’s HospitalEven though they're too young to get their drivers's license - or reach the foot pedals on most cars - some patients at Children's Hospital in Omaha are able to take the wheel of two child-size versions of the popular Hummer H@ sport utility vehicle. In March 2007, Huber Hummer of Omaha presented two battery-powered ride-on cars and extra battery packs to Children’s. The donation was part of the new Hummer Courageous Kids program, which was first implemented by the General Motors Assembly facility in Shreveport, La., the home of the Hummer H3. In 2006, the plant donated two ride-on cars to their local hospital, and the response was tremendous. “Huber Automotive was pleased to provide these mini-Hummers to Children’s Hospital for the benefit of its young patients,” said Bret Huber, owner/operator of Huber Hummer. “We’re grateful for the wonderful service Children’s provides so many families, and we’re proud to help in any way we can.” The 12-volt Little Tikes® Hummer ride-on cars came with a chrome grille and 12-inch all-terrain tires. Their top speed is 5 miles per hour. “The donation offers great recreational mobility options for some of our patients at Children’s Hospital and some of our young children at Children’s World who have physical strength and stamina limitations,” said Rob Harding, BA, CCLS, community resource specialist at Children’s Hospital. “And, since play is a crucial part of childhood, it is important to have equipment that spans the ability spectrum. Plus, the vehicles are just plain fun.” Huber Hummer is a division of Huber Automotive, located at 114th Street and West Dodge Road in Omaha.
